5 Common Travel Problems and How to Deal with Them

Packing your bags and heading out on an exciting adventure is one of the best feelings in life. However, all of that exciting anticipation can be squashed in a hurry if you experience a travel issue.

Here are five of the most common travel problems and how to deal with them.

Flight Cancellation:

It is important to remember that you have rights when it comes filing a claim for a cancelled flight. If you are traveling in Europe, you may be able to file a claim for a cancelled flight. According to Travel Refund, “The European Union signed legislation in 2004 that provides cancelled flight compensation under certain circumstances.” Knowing these circumstances ahead of time will help you in your quest to file a claim for a cancelled flight.

Flight Delay:

While not as disastrous as a straight-up cancellation, a flight delay can also present significant challenges. When dealing with a cancellation, at least you can rebook and have a set plan in place. Dealing with a flight that continues to get delayed further can cause even more anxiety. If you are at the airport when the delay is announced, you will see the best results if you get in line right away to talk to a customer service representative. While you are waiting, you can even try to call the airline to see if they can help you over the phone.

Change of Flight:

In the event that your flight is changed, you need to make sure that you fully understand all of the parameters of the change. This will ensure that you do not miss any parts of your travel. If the change does not work with your travel plans, do not be afraid to speak up. In most cases, you are eligible for a refund if the flight changes by more than an hour.

Weather:

Although you cannot predict or control the weather, you can take steps to reduce the risk that the elements ruin your trip. For example, if you are traveling during the winter and need a connecting flight, it is a good idea to avoid flying through cities known for their severe weather. Instead, choose connections in areas where you are less likely to have to deal with weather-related headaches. If the weather does affect your trip, it is important to get in touch with an airline representative as soon as possible so that you can make alternative arrangements.

Missing Bags:

The first thing that you need to do if you arrive at your destination and notice that your luggage is missing is to file a claim with the airport’s baggage claim office. This will put your missing luggage in the system and ensure that you are contacted right away when it is located. It is also a good idea to continue to follow up with your airline. Equipping yourself with this information will empower you to take control of a myriad of travel issues so that you can get back on your way and enjoy your trip.
