Fun Activities You Can Do with Kids this Winter (Especially if You’re Stuck at Home)

Do you remember when you were a kid and there was a snow day called? School was out, mom and dad were at home, and there seemed to be an endless round of snowball fights?

Snow days are great for kids, but as parents it can be tricky to think of new things to do with the kids when they’re stuck inside the house all the time, especially if the snow is particularly bad.

Luckily, there are plenty of fun activities you can do with kids this winter (especially if you’re stuck at home).

Build An Igloo

If you are looking for something to get your kids outside, try building a fort or igloo. It only takes some cardboard boxes and paints to make a fort indoors!

If you’re more adventurous and the weather outside isn’t too bad, use a Cub Cadet snowblower to clear the snow from your drive into a nice big pile, the kids can use the pile to dig out a real igloo and spend hours of winter fun pretending they are at the North Pole!

Plant a Winter Garden

Just take some old soda bottles and fill them with soil. Plant seeds of various vegetables into the soil, then place them around the house in sunlit areas that get enough protection from the wind.

Keep checking up on the plants every day, and soon you will have fresh vegetables for you and your family to enjoy.

Make some Lemonade

To make a house-made lemonade, all you need is a bunch of lemons (which are great for cleansing your liver by the way), limes, and oranges.

Mix them together with other citrus fruits you might have available at home like grapefruits, tangerines and so on.

This is perfect if your kids want to get into making fresh juice, and it’s nice to know that there are other ingredients in there other than just sugar, lemons, and water!

Be sure to double strain the mixture so no little pieces get through.

Cook Winter Treats

Make some popcorn on the stove or get out the waffle iron (make sure to clean it of course) and make some popcorn treats!

For popcorn, the kids get to help mix up the butter flavoring themselves.

Have them measure a half cup of butter into a large bowl, then add in 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Mix everything together with a spoon (it looks like dirt at first, but keep mixing), then have them add in one cup of brown sugar, stirring until everything is mixed well.

Mix in freshly popped corn and you have an amazing buttery sweet popcorn to enjoy in front of a movie!

Put On A Play

If you don’t mind having the house messy, then getting them involved in making a play can be quite fun.

For instance, there are lots of toys at home that you can use.

Use an empty box and collect some paper scraps and construction paper to make it look like a big cityscape!

Have them wander around the house to find things they think are appropriate props for their characters.
