Mathematics is not just a subject but a nightmare for many students, and class 9 mathematics can be more tricky since the students are not just preparing themselves for their monthly tests or exams but preparing themselves for 10th board exams. Class 9 mathematics is moulded in such a way that students won’t have extreme pressure in class 10. Students who recently got enrolled in class 9 must have a lot of excitement going on in their minds apart from the pressure. Extracurricular activities and science experiments are very interesting, and newly enrolled students look forward to such fun. But the students should note that Class 9 is the root of mathematics for higher levels.
All the basics are mostly taught in Class 9 only. Adding to it is the syllabus, which is way bigger than the other classes because here you are going to find coordinate geometry, equations, number systems. The students are going to find angles, triangles, circles, quadrilaterals, parallelograms, surface areas and volumes, statistics, probability, and Euclid’s Geometry which are really new for the students. These are really important for them, the basics should be clear to them, and they have to have a keen eye on it with total concentration. If the students stay focused, they are going to pass with flying colours.
The students have a misconception that as the syllabus is big, it will be really tough for them to score marks and pass the subject. Mathematics might be the toughest for students, but with practice and sheer confidence, any student can excel in it. Another misconception is that Mathematics is only for sharp minds, which is a big “No.” Any and every student can be an expert in it if they give a lot of time to practice mathematics. The more the student practices, the more expert the student would become in it. It is really sad that some students fail in Class-9 mathematics. What will others think? The general answer is that the student didn’t study, so he failed. But, it might not be the obvious reason.
If we try to look into the reason, it might be that he didn’t give time to the subject, but the perfect answer to it is that the student does not understand mathematics, for which the student does not like mathematics. It is important to note for teachers and parents to not scold a child if they have difficulty in understanding some concepts. Discouraging the child will only lead to more complexity of the situation. ON the other hand, even if a child is facing challenges but has support from parents and teachers, they will feel encouraged to do better and work harder. It is the duty of the teachers to make the student understand the concept of the given topic so that the student would start taking part with his own initiative because the student has started to develop a liking for mathematics and would practice more to get good marks and pass with flying colours.
As the students know, the syllabus of Class-9 maths mainly comprises algebra, geometry, mensuration, basic arithmetic, statistics, probability, etc. It is suggested that finishing the NCERT book thoroughly would be more than enough.
HOW TO DO IT?
- Always start with your favourite chapter: Why the favourite chapter? Aren’t we supposed to leave those for the best time? No, if students start with their favourite chapter, it increases the possibility of finishing the course as soon as possible so that the students can go for a revision too. And on the other hand, just like the saying goes on, “practice makes a man perfect” as to how students start from their favourite chapter, they are also in the race of perfection.
- Make a separate register for formulas and theorems: why a separate one why students can learn from the book? A separate register gives easy access to the students instead of turning the pages every now and then. And this makes studying easier and more fun.
- Private tutor or online tutorials: Both are bad and good in their own way, and students are not able to decide between the both because some find private tutor easy while some find online tutorials easy. Private tutors are mostly opted by everybody because it increases the students’ ability in a different way, they say listening is a fine art so as to how the tutor goes on explaining while the student sits near and learn more, apart from that students can easily ask for their doubts without any second thought. But this is difficult in online tutorials, if the student needs extra guidance them online tutorials are preferable.
- Collet notes and materials: RS Aggarwal Solutions for Class 9 Math Chapter 8 are highly recommended by everyone. Notes on theorems are very much necessary in order for easy access and easy understanding. School teachers provide a vast variety of notes on theorems and different definitions, and it is important for every student to take note of it.
- Always practice in groups: This increases the chances of better understanding, and in case of any doubt, it must be solved between the group so that everyone has a clear understanding. While practising in groups, one can play fun games like who’ll finish this sum first? This increases your speed and will eventually help everyone in the group.
- Always eat and get enough sleep: This is one of the most important parts that will help a student achieve good scores in maths. And how is that so? Practicing maths is never-ending and keeps on going, and students fall deep into it without eating anything nor getting proper sleep, and hence they fall sick during exams and are not able to do well. It is advised to every student that they must eat a snack while practicing sums and get enough sleep after the practice with a peaceful find, and that will increase the student’s chances of scoring good marks.
