Air conditioners can be an option as an electronic device to provide coolness to a room in a house, office, or any public space. It is one of the most used items, especially for people who are living in a country with a tropical climate.
But most of the time ironic situations happen. The otherwise reliable appliances that we used, seems to malfunction when we needed them the most!
Given that many people overuse their technology and appliances when they’re most needed, it’s not at all ironic or baffling at all! Cars are more prone to breakdowns when traveling at speeds above 50 mph on highways, computers are more vulnerable to viruses when downloading and browsing frequently, and your air conditioner is more likely to malfunction when you crank it up in its full power in the sweltering summer months.
We can’t give you any insight on why your car or computer isn’t working properly, but we can definitely give you some common explanations for air conditioning failure. Find some of the common reasons why your air conditioner stops working efficiently below!!
Air conditioner has damaged components
One of the most common reasons is if the air conditioner has a damaged component inside. It could be the compressor, the electrical connections, or the fan blades. If you are not a professional it is unlikely that you can identify what component is broken by yourself. You need to have a technician to help you solve the problem.
There are a variety of reasons why your air conditioner components might be broken, but one of its triggers could be because your ac wont stop running all the time. You keep it on all day to provide coolness to the room and avoid feeling stifling especially during the summer.
It might seem normal to leave the air conditioner running all day long without stopping during the summer. But keep in mind that the longer and often the air conditioner is turned on continuously, the more likely that the moving components inside will wear out. On top of that, doing so will also consume quite a bit of electricity -thus making your electricity bill more expensive. Therefore, leaving the air conditioner on continuously without stopping is never a good thing.
Besides not being good for the air conditioner itself, turning on the aircon continuously without stopping is also dangerous for your health. Spending more than 4 hours in an air conditioned room is known to be the reason for sinus infections. This is because cold air can cause hardening of the mucus glands. In addition, someone who is always inside of a room with the air conditioner turned on continuously can make them tired easily, experiencing dry skin, dry eyes, shortness of breath, and a decreased immune system. Therefore you have to give the air conditioner a rest by turning it off for a few hours after usage.
The thermostat on the aircon isn’t working properly
If your air conditioner can’t select the right temperature, it will probably turn off before achieving the required degree of comfort. Buying a new thermostat can stop your air conditioner from turning on and off repeatedly.
Air conditioner circuit breaker is broken
Before hastily buying an expensive new air conditioner if yours suddenly stops working, you should probably check your circuit breaker. However, many people are unaware that after resetting your power, you should typically give the system in your air conditioner 15 minutes to cool down. After resetting the power and waiting 15 minutes, if your cooling unit still doesn’t work, you may have to contact a technician.
Evaporator coil is frozen
A blocked airflow in your cooling system can result in a frozen evaporator coil due to accumulated dust and debris in your air filter and ducting. Your air conditioner drips water onto your floor because of ice and frost surrounding the evaporator coil. To avoid this, just be sure to maintain a clean air filter and clean ducting. Additionally, you can also check for ice or frost inside your cooling unit.
Low on refrigerant
Refrigerant is the “conditioner” part of the air conditioner. It helps to cool the air inside your air conditioner unit. If the air conditioner has a low level of refrigerant, it is most likely that there is a leak somewhere in the system. If this is the case, then help from a professional technician is needed for immediate repairs.
