Can the Christian celebrate Christmas?

As with many subjects, there are those who are for, those who are against and those who do not care. While the pagans would like to banish this festival in the name of secularism, Christians themselves do not all see Christmas in the same way. Some people think that we should not celebrate Christmas, while others are happy to do so. The purpose of this article is not to create a controversy quite the contrary. It will simply be a question of enlightenment about the celebration or not of Christmas by Christians. The real question may not be Christmas, but how to live it!

So first of all, let’s first look at the few realities about Christmas:

Jesus was not born on December 25th. Historically and scientifically all this is clear and proven. We know neither the exact year nor the exact day of the birth of Jesus.

The choice of the date of December 25 as the date of Jesus’ birth, would come from assimilation of his coming, He the “Sun of justice” to the rise of the sun after the winter solstice. Because, at the end of the winter solstice, the day will gradually win over the night and we will win minutes of sunshine. This date was therefore chosen symbolically.

This date corresponds in fact to the date of the winter solstice in the Julian calendar ( calendar used before our current calendar which is the Gregorian calendar ) and in which the date of the winter solstice is December 21 and not the 25th. Says, the winter solstice this year is announced for December 21st.

In the Julian calendar, the pagans celebrated on December 25 a solar festival called “Sol Invictus “(in Latin, Sun undefeated). This date was considered the “Dies Natalis Solis “, or “Sun’s Birthday”.

Regarding the etymology of Christmas, it is discussed. But Christmas appears associated with birth as evidenced by some translations in various languages.

With these elements, some Christians see automatically a reason not to celebrate Christmas because they say it is a pagan festival that does not correspond to the birth of Christ. But I think that as a Christian the real discussion should not be on dates because God, in His mastery of times and circumstances, nothing could prevent him from giving an accurate exact date of birth of his son. If this is not textually mentioned in the Bible, I believe it is to tell us that we must look beyond the temporal aspect, ie focus more on the way of the birth of His son. Moreover, it is not the control of dates or their respect that will bring us to heaven. We need to focus on how to live this season. In other words,

Whether Christmas is a pagan festival or not, whether Jesus Christ was born on December 25th or not, whether this date corresponds to the birth of a deity or not, it does not matter too much. What matters is the spirit in which we do things. Whoever celebrates Christmas has nothing more than one that does not celebrate and vice versa. Let everyone act freely and according to the fruit of his conviction without annoying the other. Our mission is to bring souls to the Lord and help them walk with God in love and truth. Because He had to be born to fulfill the work of redemption for which He came to earth. Visit my deal for gifts for Christmas https://www.mydeal.com.au/christmasgifts.

When we analyze the life of Jesus on earth, we will see that He took advantage of gatherings of people of evil life (pagans) to speak of the kingdom of God. So during this season, I encourage you to not only see the pagan aspect of this festival but rather a great opportunity to testify to all that Jesus did not arise as a king to impose himself on men but as a baby, to shelter our frailties. Make a pagan understand why Jesus was first to be born as a human, to die and then to be resurrected.

All I have to do is wish you well to enjoy these end-of-year holidays and have a good time with your loved ones.
