Effects and Side effects of Vitamin E

It is a fat-soluble vitamin and it in one of the most powerful antioxidants which protect us from the oxidative damage and maintain our body. It also prevents cell damage caused by free radicals. Vitamins E also helps in boosting our immune system. It helps in repairing our body cells. But however, the risks and benefits of consuming Vitamin E are still not cleared. What foods contain a high amount of Vitamin E? Food such as seeds, nuts, and green leafy vegetables, help us in protecting from the free radicals which can damage our body’s cells. This vitamin is used by our body to improve our immune system, so we can easily cope up with the diseases. Vitamin E produces monocytes to our body and they are the large white cells that fight against harmful viruses and bacteria.

Which food contains vitamins E? Food, they are the main source of everything, the food from which we get vitamin E are as follow:- sunflower oil, olive oil, green leafy vegetables, sweet potato, beetroot, egg, fish, mango, broccoli, grains, beans, etc. There are lot many uses of Vitamin E, they are as follow –

  • An inherited condition that affects motor control (Ataxia with vitamin E deficiency or AVED): The genetic movement disorders are called ataxia, which causes severe vitamin E deficiencies. Vitamin E supplements are used as part of the treatment for ataxia.
  • Menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea): Consuming vitamin E for 2 days before bleeding and for 3 days after bleeding starts seems to decrease pain and reduce menstrual blood loss very effectively. Taking vitamin E with fish oil might provide more pain relief than taking vitamin E alone.
  • Physical performance in elderly adults: From the researches, it is known that an increase in the consumption of vitamin E in the diet is linked with improved physical performance and muscle strength in elder people.
  • Sunburn: Taking high doses of vitamin E (RRR-alpha-tocopherol) by mouth with vitamin C protects us against skin inflammation after exposure to UV radiation. However, vitamin E alone doesn’t provide the same benefit. Applying vitamin E to the skin, with vitamin C and melatonin, provides some protection when used before UV exposure.

And there are many more uses of vitamin E.

There are some side – effects of vitamin E and they are as follow:-

  • Diabetes: Vitamin E can increase the risk of heart failure in people with diabetes. People with diabetes should avoid high doses of vitamin E.
  • Heart attack: Vitamin E may increase the risk of death in people with a history of heart attacks. People with a history of heart attack should avoid high doses of vitamin E.
  • Low levels of vitamin K (vitamin K deficiency): Vitamin E might worsen clotting problems in people whose levels of vitamin K are too low.
  • Weak and brittle bones (osteoporosis): Exercise is the liable medicine to people with osteoporosis to improve their bone strength. Exercising and taking high doses of vitamin E and vitamin C might lessen the benefits of exercise on bone strength.

So, it is advised that vitamin E is very good for health but it should be consumed in a limit. And, if not so it might create extra problems for you and in your life.
