Web retailers are constantly working on generating sales and finding new customers. Preferably also saving money. However, one very important factor is forgotten by the suppliers. Agreements with suppliers can have a major impact on the service you can provide to customers.
Consumers should be informed about conformity, as I wrote earlier on this site. As a web store, you can only do this if you have sufficient knowledge about the products you sell. The first company that has more knowledge about this than you is the supplier. So make sure you get the right information from there to be able to pass it on to consumers. In addition, you will need this knowledge to handle complaints from consumers about conformity to be able to handle it better.
If a product is not in conformity, in other words: if it breaks earlier than expected, you, as a web store, will have to repair or replace the product according to the rules of conformity (also called the legal guarantee). An expensive affair, unless you make good agreements with the Food Supply Companies.
Agreements about defective products
Agreements between a supplier and a webshop are business agreements. There is no consumer law involved. You cannot, therefore, invoke consumer rights, for example on conformity. You cannot even count on passing on your compliance obligations to the supplier. Without agreements, you are not entitled to anything.
It is therefore wise to make good agreements with the supplier. For example, in the event of consumer complaints about conformity, the supplier will send parts free of charge to repair the defect. Or maybe the product can be sent to the supplier so that it is free of charge or has it repaired. Or else at least that the parts can be bought at a discount. Thus the risk of product sales is shared between supplier and merchant, both good name to build and retain consumers.
Think ahead and put the agreements on paper. If something goes wrong, there is a document that both parties can fall back on to check the agreements. Especially when you or the supplier is a larger organization, where several people work in a department, it is good to be able to rely on an objective document instead of a subjective memory.
Put agreements on paper
The above agreements are a selection of the most important agreements you can make with a supplier. Of course, you can agree on anything you wish. Making these agreements is very important to limit the financial risks as much as possible. To be able to demonstrate exactly which agreements you have made, you will have to put the agreements on paper. A contract with a signature is the best proof.
