How to Live a Healthy Lifestyle Over the Summer

Summer is swinging hot and fast, and with it comes the incredible pressure to correct the health problems we put on ourselves in the winter.  Although we can’t un-eat all of the sweets or undo the time we spent curled up on the couch with family, why would we want to? So here are some tips to help start down a healthier path so that you can end up somewhere that makes you proud.

Gradual Changes

Many people may infamously do healthy changes cold-turkey: but that doesn’t mean you should follow the same path.  Cold turkey changes are a shock on your system and your mind and can be difficult to navigate.  Do better for yourself by changing it up and trying to make these changes slowly over time.  If you’re not sure if that’s possible for you, consider what the smallest step you can take is.

If your goal is to lose two pounds a week and use soda as a major crutch, try cutting down by just one can a day.  Working down in gradual amounts like this will give you a chance to get used to it and prepare yourself for whatever other changes you want to make.

Intermittent Fasting

This type of diet is a hot topic that many debates.  Some claim it’s not healthy, while others say it’s the most natural diet you can have.  This type of diet means that for sixteen straight hours of your day: you don’t eat.  The best way people make this work for them is to stop eating four hours before bed and don’t eat again until four hours after they’ve had a full eight hours of sleep. 

An easier way to look at this would be to say you only get your daily calories within eight hours in a single day.  For most, this is from noon to eight pm, or from ten am to six pm.  This type of fasting allows for your body to completely use what calories you consume while also improving your sleep patterns since you’ll have to sleep during that time.

Drinking More Fluids

Water isn’t a miracle weight loss fluid that many sites and shows make it out to be: it’s simply a vital part of our daily lives. For example, if you fill up on water before a meal, you can feel fuller for fifteen to twenty minutes, but that time will quickly pass.

Instead, it’s a good idea to evenly disperse how much water you take in throughout the day.  Don’t overhydrate; just drink enough to keep yourself hydrated and keep your urine light in stops between looking at real estate for sale in Whistler.  If you start urinating completely clear liquid, you’ve gone too far and should step back a little.

Consider What Health Benefits You Want

It would help if you always kept in mind what benefits are your goals.  Are you trying to get into shape so that you can lose weight?  Are you trying to gain muscle?  Is there a hormone issue you’re trying to overcome through diet and working out?  Make a clear goal for yourself to help you turn this around and plan out weekly diets and workout sessions.  Having a clear direction makes it easier to follow a path.
