Koi Gate Slots Explained

A Koi Gate slot game is a special sort of slot game, the most prominent of which is designed by Habanero. There have been many copies, though. It’s essentially a slot game with 15 slots, divided between 5 vertical lines and 3 horizontal rows. The typical variety has over 15 pay combinations.

It’s one of those ‘deeper’ slot games on account of all 3 rows being active and included in the winning patterns. But it’s also not terribly hard to comprehend. There are big games that make it unnecessarily more difficult for the players to follow the gameplay logic. It’s pretty simple with Koi Gate.

What is Koi Gate?

The standard Koi Gate game is designed like a fish pond of sorts. In particular, the main theme is that of a koi pond – a small Japanese fish pond of decorative value. It’s a mainstream part of the culture of this country, recognized by many people who know this culture at least superficially.

The game design takes inspiration from these ponds, so it’s actually trying to connect with people who are interested in Japan in any way. There is also a popular Japanese legend that tells of a koi fish that was so determined that it was able to jump over a waterfall, which basically tells you to try and defy the odds.

In technical terms, these slots are very similar to the many different slot games out there. You simply pull the lever and watch it a spin.

Winning at Koi Gate

There are over 15 winning combinations in this game, and the images are taken into account throughout the vast playing field. The images have a slight connection to Japanese art, as there are several pictures reminiscent of this country’s mythology, religion, and so forth – all made to look ancient and mysterious.

There are also letter combinations. The letters are all from the Latin alphabet, and they include only four: ‘A’, ‘J’, ‘K’, and ‘Q’. They are most likely selected as the first letters for Ace, Joker, King, and Queen, the cards. There really aren’t many pictures in this game, but the pay line combinations could be fewer.

Several vertical rows can be involved – you don’t need to have the entire length of the game be a winning pattern. If you collect the pay line (the winning pattern), the vertical rows where it happened will visualize the koi fish swimming up these rows with a triumphant sound. You will know when you win.

Other Technical Qualities

Besides the rows of slots that you’ll have to look at most of your time, the typical Koi Gate has a small interface beneath that tells you all there is to tell about your bets, money & other details. The spin button is to the right, designed as a gong of sorts. The whole interface looks carved from stone, very traditional.

There is also an unusable frame all around the game parts themselves. There are many different East Asian motifs, including the curtains, what seems to be the Shinto gates, as well as Chinese lanterns.
