Dandelion Salve

How To Prepare A Dandelion Salve For Health Benefits

Remember that stubborn weed that never seems to leave your garden even after multiple tries? Yes, I’m talking about dandelions. Well, the same weed we desperately want to get rid of, is known for its use in several traditional medicinal properties. Yes, I’m not kidding.

Dandelion is one of the most beneficial weeds that belong to the flower family. If I start telling you what all physical ailments it can treat, trust me, the next second, this will become your favorite flower. For ages, this flower has been used to cure diseases like acne, physical ailments, liver problems, digestive disorders, and even cancer. Would you have ever imagined that those weeds growing in the back of your house have so many health benefits? No, right? Most people hate dandelions and often destroy them with fertilizers and pesticides, totally unaware of how beneficial those weeds can be.

As I was a kid, I always saw my grandmother do all these ayurvedic treatments with flowers, and that’s when I came to know that this tiny looking flower is actually the mother of all flowers (not literally). So today, out of all other uses, I have got a salve recipe for you that can cure sore muscles and chapped lips. It is a very easy recipe that can be prepared at home. All you need to do is to go and pluck those yellow flowers from the back of your house. If you don’t have dandelions in your backyard, don’t worry, you live in an era where getting a flower delivery in UAE is as easy as ABC.

Let’s begin.

Dandelion infused oil

Don’t worry; I’m not shifting from the topic. To prepare the dandelion salve, you first need to make dandelion infused the oil. Though its a part of dandelion salve, dandelion infused oil has its own benefits. This oil is mostly used for chapped or cracked lips. Also, this oil is used to relax sore muscles and pains and aches.

It is advisable that you don’t use freshly picked dandelions as they have too much water content that might make the oil sludge, and the risk of spoilage is high. Otherwise, the shelf life for this oil is approx.1 year.

How to Make Dandelion Salve

Once you are ready with the dandelion infused the oil, move to the recipe of the salve.

Ingredients required

  • 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of dandelion infused oil
  • 15 grams(0.5 ounces) of beeswax pastilles

If you have tamanu oil available or have no problem purchasing one, then you can mix some tamanu oil along with dandelion infused oil to make the salve. Since tamanu oil is simply the best skin healing agent, you can get, so mixing some of it will lend you the benefits of both oils. Mix about 15 grams of tamanu oil with less than 100 grams of dandelion oil. If you don’t want to purchase one, no issues, you can use all dandelion infused the oil. Google the recipe to prepare the dandelion infused oil while you order flowers online in UAE.

Method

  1. Mix beeswax pastilles and oil in a heatproof container.
  2. Place it gently into a pan filled with several inches of water.
  3. Place it on the heat and set the temperature at medium-low. Now let the container rest in the make-shift double boiler until the wax is properly melted.
  4. Now, remove the container from the heat carefully pour the mixture into tins or jars. Let it sit until firm.

These quantities will yield approximately 100-115 grams (four ounces) of dandelion salve. You can use some old mason jars or jelly jars for this.

So, next time you are planning a killing spree on dandelions, think twice. Also, instead of sending fancy flowers to your loved ones, get flowers delivered such as these.
