Sonakshi Sinha following the recent trend leaves Twitter (Reference: Times of India) the day before- when she was quite depressed with the trolls arising throughout the nation regarding “Nepotism” and “Favoring Star Kids at Bollywood”. On her other social media handle Instagram the actor mockingly states “Aag lage Basti me….main apni Masti me” (Check Reference: India TV News Channel) which means, she turns a deaf ear to all the trolls happening around the country about the star kids.
Sonakshi, being the daughter of famous Bollywood star and MP Satrughna Sinha, seems to have had a lot of influence behind her career. She made her debut with superstar Salman Khan in the movie Dabaang, and it became a blockbuster hit. Thereafter, she never had to look back- got offers for several movies and many of them turned out to be super hits such as Rowdy Rathod, Dabaang 2, Lootera, Action Jackson, Force 2, etc.
Things were going fine, till the recent incident took place on 14th June, Sushant Singh Rajput’s sad demise– which shook not only the Bollywood film industry but the whole nation. Then onwards, the media and common people of India have been criticizing the Bollywood film industry for the “Nepotism” act and all the actors, directors, producers- whoever seems to be accused/ involved in the same.
Even famous Bollywood celebrities like Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Mahesh Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and many more have been bashed by the reporters, media, and common people. Social media has been the main source of showing hatred, asking for justice, asking for a change in society, etc. Twitter was also not left out of the trend. It’s the platform through which one can reach out to his/her favorite star within a moment raising questions to him/her directly at the Twitter handle! Twitter has made things so easy and accessible! But each and every good thing also has a drawback. The same thing happens to Twitter also- when the actors started feeling criticized and started leaving the platform one-by-one.
The trend started with director Shashank Khaitan and followed by Shakib Salim, Ayush Sharma, Sneha Ullal, Zaheer Iqbal, and more (Reference: Times of India). Shakib depressedly stated that it is a pathetic experience as such a friendly social platform has been turning out to be the medium spreading hatred, and violence- mainly targeting the Bollywood star kids. For spreading rumors and hatred, even the platform has also banned actor Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel. We are not sure how many actors/celebrities’ names will come up in the future and how many of them will leave Twitter! So, the citizens of India have already started raising the question:
“Is leaving the platform and hiding yourself the right option for the stars whom we follow? Or they should stand in front, answer us? As they are the trend-setters, not us!”
